Charles Gibson to Anchor ABC's Coverage of the State of the Union Address, Monday, January 28
Live Coverage to Include Democratic Response
Thursday, January 24, 2008 -- ABC News will broadcast President George Bush's final State of the Union address live on MONDAY, JANUARY 28. Coverage will begin at 9:00 p.m., ET and will also include the Democratic response.
Charles Gibson will anchor ABC's coverage from Washington, DC. He will be joined by "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos, Chief White House Correspondent Martha Raddatz and ABC News commentator George Will. Dan Bartlett, former Counselor to President Bush, will also contribute.
Mr. Gibson will also anchor "World News" from Washington, DC. on Monday. After the speech, "Nightline" will provide additional State of the Union coverage and analysis live at 11:35 p.m., ET, with Terry Moran anchoring from Washington. On Tuesday "Good Morning America" will feature morning-after reaction to the President's speech, with full coverage from co-anchors Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts.
ABC News Radio will provide extensive coverage of the State of the Union Address and the Democratic response, starting at 9:00 p.m., ET, anchored by ABC News correspondent Aaron Katersky, with ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton and ABC News correspondent Vic Ratner on Capitol Hill. Prior to the President's address, ABC News Radio will provide a one-hour special at 8:06 p.m., ET that examines issues President Bush is expected to discuss.
ABCNEWS.com has launched a special subsection, "Bush's Legacy: The Final Year," online. The section features original stories reflecting on the successes and failures of the Bush administration in several key areas: Iraq (reported by Senior National Security Correspondent Jonathan Karl), Politics (reported by Senior Political Reporter Rick Klein), the Economy (by Reporter Scott Mayerowitz) and Polling/Approval Rating (reported Polling Director Gary Langer). Senior Correspondent John Cochran also reports on what presidents past could and could not achieve in their final year in office.
On ABC News NOW, Sam Donaldson and Laura Marquez will anchor live coverage of the State of the Union, as well as the Democratic response. Coverage will also include analysis of the President's speech, interviews with special guests and video participation by viewers. ABC News NOW will feature "Talk Back" videos, allowing viewers to voice their reaction following the address.
ABC NewsOne, the affiliate news feed service of ABC News, will provide live reports from Washington DC for more than 200 ABC affiliates and clients, with ABC News correspondents Marti Johnson and T.J. Winick
