HBO Offers Entertainment that Matters During Black History Month

January 24, 2008 -- HBO is spotlighting a roster of programs during Black History Month across the service's multiple platforms – from HBO On Demand and Cinemax On Demand to HBO and Cinemax's multiplex channels – under the heading Entertainment That Matters.

Showcasing top entertainers of yesterday and today, the Entertainment That Matters campaign will feature HBO original programming as well as current and classic Hollywood movies across all genres and interests. The tribute celebrates storytelling and performers relevant to Black History Month.

HBO On Demand
From February 4th through March 3rd, Black History Month content can be found within all HBO On Demand categories. In addition, a special sub-category, Black History Month, is being created for movies. In total, more than twenty encores or new seasons of HBO critically acclaimed and award-winning programs as well as theatricals and new shorts are being offered.

The select programs include the HBO series' The Wire, In Treatment and Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam; the HBO Films Sometimes in April; the HBO Sports special Joe Louis: America's Hero…Betrayed; the HBO documentary Little Rock Central High – 50 Years Later; the HBO stand-up comedy special D.L. Hughley: Unapologetic; plus additional short-form content including the ABFF Shorts, five films directed by up-and-coming filmmakers who competed for the 2007 HBO Short Film Award at the American Black Film Festival; Sweet Blackberry Presents: The Journey of Henry Box Brown and Garrett's Gift, two animated shorts for kids; and Music Spotlight: Emily King & Mario. Theatricals include Dreamgirls, No Way Out, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings, The Last King of Scotland, The Shawshank Redemption and The Wiz.

Cinemax On Demand
Black History Month content can be found in the movies category, under the Black History Month dedicated section on Cinemax on Demand, from February 1st through February 28th. Films include the 16 Blocks, The Long Run, Get on the Bus, To Kill a Mockingbird and Silver Streak.

HBO/Cinemax Multiplex Channels
All the programs above will also be offered on one or more of HBO's seven multiplex channels or Cinemax's eight multiplex channels throughout Black History Month. Check local listings for dates and times.
