Statement By Former CIA Director James Woolsey On Mitt Romney's Position On Iraq
January 26, 2008 -- ARLINGTON, VA -- Former CIA Director James Woolsey today issued the following statement on Governor Mitt Romney's remarks on secret time tables for withdrawal from Iraq:
"From the beginning of the war in Iraq, John McCain has been our nation's most outspoken advocate for victory. John McCain has consistently supported our troops and their mission.
When public opinion turned against the war, Governor Romney followed suit calling for secret' time tables for withdrawal. As president and commander in chief John McCain will never equivocate. While John McCain had the judgment and courage to call for a change in strategy -- a strategy that is succeeding -- Governor Romney remained silent. Our president must have the judgment and experience to lead from day one and John McCain is the only candidate qualified for the job."
