PRWeek Awards Name New Line Cinema's Hairspray Campaign as Finalist for the "Arts, Entertainment and Media Campaign of the Year"
January 16, 2008 -- New Line Cinema's national publicity campaign for the hit musical comedy film Hairspray has been short-listed for the 2008 PRWeek Award for "Arts, Entertainment & Media Campaign of the Year."
Winners will be announced at the PRWeek Awards dinner in New York City on March 6. All entries were reviewed by a panel of 77 judges and New Line's Hairspray campaign is one of five finalists in its category.
The finalists competing with Hairspray in the "Arts Entertainment & Media Campaign of the Year" category are: Brodeur and The History Channel –Reinventing a Modern Marvel; Edelman and Microsoft Game Studios- Halo 3 PR Program; Ketchum and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company – "Into the Fire:" Igniting Support for America's Firefighters; and Tiller and Amazon.com – Harry Potter-mania at Amazon.com.
Hairspray has grossed more than $200 million worldwide, making it the third highest grossing musical of all time, behind Grease and Chicago.
New Line Cinema has earned two PRWeek Awards for "Arts, Media & Entertainment Campaign of the Year" in the past for its campaigns for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2002 and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 2000. In 2005, New Line's campaign for Wedding Crashers was short-listed for the award.
