Detroit Tigers Agree to Terms with Marcus Thames
01/17/2008, DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Marcus Thames, thus avoiding arbitration.
Marcus Thames saw action in 86 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2007, batting .242 (65-for-269) with 15 doubles, 18 home runs and 54 RBI. He hit .315 (23-for-73) with runners in scoring position last season.
In four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Marcus Thames is hitting .244 (217-for-889) with 49 doubles, 61 home runs and 163 RBI in 295 games. Over the four-year period, he is averaging a home run once every 14.57 at-bats.
