18th Annual PirateFest to Be Held Jan. 25-27 in Pittsburgh

01/17/2008 -- The Pittsburgh Pirates will host PirateFest 2008 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, January 25 - 27. Now in its 18th year, PirateFest is a giant indoor baseball carnival for the entire family, featuring live events, free autograph sessions, prizes, games, youth baseball clinics, the Pirate Parrot and much more.

"PirateFest is an exciting time for both the organization and our fans because it is the official kickoff for the upcoming season," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly. "It gives us another opportunity for our players and our entire organization to personally thank our fans for their continued dedication before we head to spring training."

This year's event will feature the following:

* Free autograph sessions with members of the 2008 Pirates, including Jason Bay, Jack Wilson, Xavier Nady, Matt Morris, Tom Gorzelanny, Zach Duke, Matt Capps, Paul Maholm, Ian Snell, Nyjer Morgan, and John Grabow, along with new manager John Russell and pitching coach Jeff Andrews.
* Autograph sessions with Pirates prospects Andrew McCutchen, Neil Walker and Brian Bixler.
* Autograph sessions with Pirates alumni Al Oliver, Dave Parker, Bob Friend, Richie Hebner, Bill Madlock and Dick Groat.
* A 60' replica baseball field to host Youth Baseball Clinics with pitching coach Jeff Andrews and manager John Russell.
* Q&A Sessions with the players as well as "Ask Pirates Management" with Frank Coonelly, Neal Huntington and John Russell.
* The chance to join your favorite players in a version of Pirates "Deal Or No Deal", "We Are Fam-a-lee Feud", "Pirates Trivia" contests, "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" Karaoke, Pierogy Eating Contests and everyone's favorite game "Bucco".
* Giant Eagle Kids Fun Zone featuring many activities for children, along with nutritional information.
* Pirates "Lost Treasures" area to include game-used jerseys, bats, baseballs and more available for purchase.
* A charity raffle with proceeds to benefit Pirates Charities Foundation.
* A PirateFest Pop-Up, rock climbing wall, inflatable rides, batting cages, speed pitch and more.
* Information on 2008 Pirates Season Ticket Packages and Group Outings.
* Information on the Pirates 2008 promotional schedule.

Fans can also bring a non-perishable food or grocery item to the Pirates Community Corner booth and receive a free Pirates poster featuring player photos and the 2008 schedule.

Hours for PirateFest 2008 are 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25; Noon - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26; 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27.

Tickets are priced at $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for kids 12 and under (children under 30" in height are admitted for free). Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Pirates at 412-321-BUCS or 1-800-BUY-BUCS or online at pirates.com. Complete PirateFest autograph schedules will also available on the website at a later date.
