Claudio Vargas Signs One-Year Contract with the Milwaukee Brewers
Starting pitcher avoids arbitration
01/16/2008, MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers today signed RHP Claudio Vargas to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Vargas, 29, went 11-6 with a 5.09 ERA and one save in 29 games (23 starts) during his first season with the Brewers.
With the signing of Vargas, the Brewers now have three players eligible for arbitration. Those players are SS J.J. Hardy (.277, 26hr, 80rbi), RHP Dave Bush (12-10, 5.12) and LHP Chris Capuano (5-12, 5.10).
