NYC Mayor Bloomberg And Green Bay Mayor James Schmitt Announce Friendly Wager On NFC Championship Game

January 16, 2008 -- New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Green Bay Mayor James J. Schmitt today placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the NFC Championship Game between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. The game will take place Sunday evening at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The winner advances to Super Bowl XLII.

If the Giants win, Mayor Schmitt will send an assortment of Green Bay products to Mayor Bloomberg in New York, including a gift basket from "World Cheese Champion" U.S. Specialty Cheese, featuring 17 cheese spreads totaling roughly 10 pounds; 20 16-ounze aged natural strip steaks from Smithfield Beef; three pounds of award-winning chocolates from Beertsen's Candies; and a pair of cheese wedge sunglasses from Cheese Shades. If the Packers win, Mayor Bloomberg will send a specially-made 10-pound New York-style cheesecake from Carnegie Deli in Manhattan; a case of Brooklyn Lager from Brooklyn Brewery; and 20 pounds of Porterhouse steak from Peter Luger Restaurant in Brooklyn - and as an extra incentive, 6 bottles of Peter Luger steak sauce.

"The weather this Sunday in Wisconsin is supposed to be cold, but I'm confident that the red-hot Giants will burn up the field with Eli Manning's precision passing, Brandon Jacobs' power running, and a fierce pass rush from Michael Strahan and the rest of the defense," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Packers fans may call themselves Cheeseheads, but I don't expect that they will have the pleasure of enjoying the specially-made 10-pound cheesecake from Carnegie Deli - along with Peter Luger's mouth-watering Porterhouse steaks and our delicious Brooklyn beer."

"With the way the Packers are playing, it's really not a risk at all from our end - although I do have to thank the Giants for making sure that we'll punch our ticket to the Super Bowl at home instead of on the road," said Mayor Schmitt. "Sunday's game is sure to leave the Big Apple with a sour taste afterwards."
