Pittsburgh Pirates Announce Minor League Baseball Managers, Coaches
01/15/2008 -- The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their minor league managerial and coaching assignments for the 2008 season. The announcement was made by Kyle Stark, Pittsburgh's Director of Player Development.
The Triple-A Indianapolis Indians will be managed by Trent Jewett, who will be managing at the Triple-A level for the 11th season.
Tim Leiper will return to Altoona for a third straight season after leading the Curve to a winning campaign and an overall record of 148-132 in each of his first two seasons.
Returning for his second season at Single-A Hickory will be Gary Green. The 2008 campaign will be Green's fifth as a manager in the Pirates farm system.
Jeff Branson, who led Single-A Lynchburg to a second half title in 2007, will be returning to manage the Crawdads in 2008. This will be Branson's third season as a manager in the Pirates minor league system and his ninth overall.
Brad Fischer will manage the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League after spending the last 29 years in the Oakland organization, the last 11 at the major league level. Fischer will be the Pirates minor league catching coordinator before joining the Spikes.
Tom Prince will manage at Bradenton for the second straight year.
