College baseball tournament to be held Feb. 29 and Mar. 1-2, annual FanFest to be held on Saturday, Mar. 29 in conjunction with exhibition game against Detroit Tigers

01/15/2008, HOUSTON -- College baseball returns to Minute Maid Park this year with the 2008 Houston College Classic, presented by the Houston Chronicle, on Feb. 29 and March 1-2. With the opening of the college baseball season being moved back two weeks beginning this year, the three-day tournament moves back in the calendar from mid-February, when it has been scheduled in past years. This year's Classic will mark the eighth year of the event, which has developed into the premier early-season tournament in college baseball.

With the new date for the Classic, Houston Astros FanFest moves to a one-day event on Saturday, March 29. FanFest will be held in conjunction with the club's exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers on 1:05 PM that day. The purchase of a ticket for the Astros-Tigers game also gains fans admission to FanFest. This year's annual baseball carnival once again offers fans the opportunity to meet Astros players, play interactive baseball games, and participate in baseball. Times and players scheduled to appear will be released once all details are finalized.

The University of Houston and Rice University return for their annual participation in the College Classic. Three Big 12 teams are competing this year: the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and the University of Oklahoma. The University of Tennessee rounds out the six-team 2008 College Classic field. Rice (No. 6) and Texas (No. 8) are both ranked in the top 10 in the preseason poll of Collegiate Baseball. The schedule of games for the 2008 College Classic is listed at the end of this release.

Tickets for the College Classic will be available at the Minute Maid Park Box Office beginning Friday, Jan. 25. Tickets for the March 29 exhibition game, which gains fans admission to Astros FanFest, will be available at the Box Office on Friday, Feb. 15.

For the College Classic, single-day ticket prices are $13 for daily admission and $30 for the entire tournament on Friday-Sunday. Children's tickets, for ages 4-14, are $6 daily and $15 for the tournament. Student tickets are also $6 and are only available at the Box Office with a valid student ID.
