Toronto Blue Jays Complete Minor League Appointments
01/14/2008 -- The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have completed the coaching staffs of each Minor League affiliate for the upcoming 2008 season.
GARY CATHCART, moves from manager at Lansing (A) to New Hampshire (AA) of the Eastern League. CATHCART, 45, enters his 3rd season as a manager with the club, having managed Pulaski (Rookie) in 2004, prior to his posting at Lansing last season. He led the Lugnuts to a 78-61 record, a franchise record for wins, and a playoff berth in the Midwest League. The New Bedford, Massachusetts native first joined the Blue Jays organization for the 2003 season and holds a 118-88 (.573) managerial record.
CLAYTON McCULLOUGH, will manage the Lansing (A) Lugnuts of the Midwest League. The native of Greenville, North Carolina, a first-time manager last season, led the Blue Jays Gulf Coast entry to a 36-24 record and a second place finish in the North Division. The 28 year-old is entering his 3rd season with the organization, beginning his major league coaching career as the hitting coach for the Pulaski Blue Jays (Rookie League) in the Appalachian League. Prior to the Appalachian League season he was a volunteer baseball coach at East Carolina University during the collegiate season. A former catcher in the Cleveland Indians organization, he also saw time as the interim bullpen catcher for part of the 2006 season with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Gulf Coast Blue Jays will be managed by DAVE PANO. PANO, 48, spent the last season as the hitting coach for the Gulf Coast club. Previously he managed the Pulaski (Advanced-Rookie) entry in 2005 and 2006. The Worcester, Massachusetts native posted a 69-66 record during that time, leading the club to a second place finish in 2006. The Gulf Coast League (Rookie) operates from late June through the end of August, featuring a 10-week schedule.
