Connecticut Governor Rell Announces Grants for Non-Profit Arts Groups
December 19, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that more than $1.97 million in matching grants has been awarded to 132 non-profit arts organizations throughout Connecticut. The grants augment general operating support (GOS) grants awarded to these organizations in July 2007.
Funds for the grants are a result of the $4 million Governor Rell and the General Assembly allocated to the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT) in the 2007-2008 budget as part of the Governor’s Cultural Treasures initiative. These funds have provided new and expanded grant program opportunities for culture and tourism organizations throughout the state.
“These grants strengthen Connecticut’s non-profit arts industry by funding core operational costs,” said Governor M. Jodi Rell. “This investment helps arts organizations throughout the state bring quality programming to larger audiences, further engage residents in their communities and continue to improve our quality of life.
“The state’s investment also plays a critical role in helping organizations leverage funding from corporations, foundations and individuals. On average, these grants are matched 12:1 by private sector support.”
The supplemental general operating support grants may be applied to any aspect of an organization’s daily operations, including administrative and/or programming costs. The grants are designed to help advance organizations’ overall missions, promote greater stability for organizations and make quality art programs, exhibits and performances available to Connecticut’s residents.
Each recipient organization underwent a review process that evaluated the quality and artistic merit of its core activities, efforts to engage audiences and community members, management practices and fiscal responsibility.
