Delaware Gov. Minner and N.C. Gov. Easley Agree to Friendly Wager on NCAA Division I Football Championship
Dec. 12, 2007 -- Dover – Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner has accepted North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley’s offer to a friendly wager on Friday’s NCAA Division I Football Championship between the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens and the Appalachian State University Mountaineers.
Gov. Minner has countered Gov. Easley’s wager of North Carolina barbecue and a case of Cheerwine (a cherry soft drink) with Grotto’s pizza, Nic-o-boli’s and Dogfish Head rootbeer.
“I cannot wait to see our Fightin’ Blue Hens bring home another national championship title,” Gov. Minner said. “I was there for their 2003 win and look forward to watching them do it again. And this time, I’ll get to savor the victory while enjoying some genuine North Carolina barbecue, thanks to Gov. Easley.”
“I am looking forward to the pizza and other Delaware delights Gov. Minner will be sending, but not as much as I will savor watching Appalachian State’s football team take their unprecedented third consecutive national title,” Gov. Easley said. “The Mountaineers have thrilled fans with their exciting offense and solid defense this season, starting with the dramatic victory over the University of Michigan. They have worked hard and will be outstanding representatives of their school and North Carolina.”
The Hens clinched their last national championship victory 2003 when they defeated Colgate 40-0. They will play the Mountaineers in Finley Stadium in Chatanooga on Friday at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
