Houston Astros Claim Ryan Houston from Toronto Blue Jays
Pitcher added to Houston Astros 40-man roster
12/12/2007, HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros announced today that the club has claimed right-handed pitcher Ryan Houston off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. The announcement was made by General Manager Ed Wade.
Houston, 28, was 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA and five saves (29ER/60.2IP) in 50 games for Triple A Syracuse of the International League in 2007. He also pitched for Lara in the Venezeulan Winter League during this off-season, posting a 1-0 record with nine saves and a 0.60 ERA (1ER/15IP) in 14 appearances.
Houston has spent nine seasons in the Toronto minor league system, and the right-hander was originally selected in the 31st round of the June 1998 Draft. A native of Pensacola, FL, Houston attended Escambia High School and Pensacola Junior College.
With the addition of Houston, the Astros 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.
