Oakland A's do not tender contracts to RHP Kiko Calero and RHP Jose Garcia

12/12/2007, OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's today announced that they have agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Lenny DiNardo on a one-year contract. The A's also announced that they did not tender contracts to right-handed pitchers Kiko Calero and Jose Garcia.

DiNardo began the 2007 season in the Oakland A's bullpen but moved into the starting rotation at the end of May and finished the season with an 8-10 record and a 4.11 ERA in 35 games, 20 starts. He was 7-8 with a 4.93 ERA and .293 opponents batting average in his 20 starting assignments and 1-2 with a 1.82 ERA in his 15 relief appearances. The 28-year old left-hander was originally claimed off waivers from Boston prior to the 2007 season and is 9-13 with a 4.66 ERA in 78 career appearances, 27 starts.

Calero appeared in just 46 games last year because of shoulder problems and was 1-5 with a save and a 5.75 ERA. The games pitched were his fewest in his three seasons with the A's, the ERA was more than two runs above his previous high and his .293 opponents batting average was more than 60 points above his previous high. The 32-year old right-hander was originally acquired by the A's from St. Louis in the Mark Mulder trade following the 2004 season and has a 12-10 record, seven saves and a 3.55 ERA in 241 career appearances.

Garcia was claimed off waivers by the A's from the Florida Marlins on October 11 and was designated for assignment on December 6. He missed the entire 2007 season following "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow. Garcia made his Major League debut with Florida in 2006 and had no decisions and a 4.91 ERA in five relief appearances.
