Nancy Pelosi: Head Start Is One of America’s Most Popular Investments Because It Is One of Our Most Effective
December 12, 2007 -- Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Head Start for School Readiness Act, which President Bush signed into law today after it received strong bipartisan support in the Congress:
"The Head Start for School Readiness Act is additional evidence of the New Direction Congress’ commitment to the future of America’s children. This bipartisan legislation is another step toward our goal of ensuring that all children enter school prepared to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.
"The New Direction Congress succeeded where others had failed by passing a Head Start bill for the first time in nearly a decade that improves teacher and classroom quality, focuses Head Start on school readiness, and serves more children.
“Head Start is one of America’s most popular investments because it is one of our most effective. This legislation builds on its success and strengthens Head Start for the future.
"The Head Start reauthorization makes clear that we take seriously our responsibility to America’s children and that we understand that America’s future will only be as strong as our commitment to the health and well-being of every child. I am pleased the President has signed it into law."
