Connecticut Governor Rell to Declare December 13 Boston Red Sox Day in Connecticut
2007 World Series Trophy to Make Four Stops in CT on Thursday
December 12, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that she will declare Thursday, December 13, 2007, as Boston Red Sox Day in the State of Connecticut. The official declaration will come on the same day Mr. Larry Lucchino, President and CEO of the Boston Red Sox, will bring the 2007 World Series trophy on a four-stop tour of Connecticut.
“This year’s World Series championship is still fresh in the hearts and minds of Red Sox fans in Connecticut. This is truly a special opportunity, not only for the die hard Red Sox fans in Connecticut, but for baseball fans across the state who will have a special opportunity to get a close up look at a piece of sports history,” said Governor Rell.
“Declaring Boston Red Sox Day in the State of Connecticut is my way of congratulating the players, team management and fans from Connecticut for winning the 2007 World Series. Two months have passed since the Red Sox completed its four-game sweep of the Rockies but the victory is still fresh in the hearts and minds of their fans. Red Sox Day will certainly build on what was an incredible baseball season.”
The trophy will be on display for public viewing at the following locations on December 13:
* 10:00 to 11:00 am New Haven City Hall 165 Church Street
* 2:15 to 4:00 pm State Capitol, Hartford 210 Capitol Avenue
Following the team’s four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 World Series, Governor Rell wrote to Mr. John Henry, Principal Owner of the Boston Red Sox, asking him to consider coming to Connecticut so this part of Red Sox Nation could join them in celebrating their championship season.
“The Red Sox organization pledged they would come back to Connecticut if they won the World Series and I am proud to announce that they have fulfilled their promise to their loyal fans. I want to thank team management for taking the time to bring the trophy to Connecticut and for demonstrating their unwavering dedication to the fans that proudly call this part of Red Sox Nation their home,” said Governor Rell.
