New Line Cinema's 'The Golden Compass,' 'Hairspray' Earn Critics Choice Award Nominations
December 11, 2007 -- New Line Cinema's musical comedy Hairspray and fantasy adventure The Golden Compass both received multiple nominations for the 13th Annual Critics Choice Awards this morning from the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), including in the Family Film (Live Action) category.
The Golden Compass also earned a nomination in the Young Actress category for 13 year-old Dakota Blue Richards, who plays Lyra.
Besides its nomination for Family Film, Hairspray was nominated for four additional awards: Acting Ensemble, Comedy Movie, Young Actress (Nikki Blonsky), and Song ("Come So Far" – Queen Latifah, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley). Recently, the Hairspray soundtrack earned a Grammy nomination for Best Soundtrack Recording.
The BFCA includes 200 television, radio and online critics. The 13th Annual Critics Choice Awards will be held Jan. 7, 2008 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
