News Correspondent Jeff Johnson Travels to Darfur and Sits Down with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Actor, Activist and Author Don Cheadle to Discuss the Issues Facing the Sudan

NEW YORK, Nov. 14 -- Thousands of people in the Darfur region of the Sudan are being beaten, raped, murdered and driven from their homes resulting in an astonishing death toll of more than 200,000 innocent Africans.

The Sudanese government says it is only defending itself against forces inside and outside of the country, and the "Arab" horsemen collectively known as the Janjaweed claim they are fighting to reclaim land that is rightfully theirs. Either way there needs to be a resolution. On Sunday, November 25 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, BET News digs deep into the crisis that has captured the nation's attention with a one-hour special titled LIFE AND DEATH IN DARFUR: JEFF JOHNSON REPORTS.

In this ground-breaking special, viewers will hear stories firsthand from the Darfurian people, representatives and sympathizers of the Sudanese government, members of the humanitarian organizations who have been on the ground since the conflict began and Darfurian expats -- all of whom have both clear and often contradictory points of view about the situation in the region. Through video, photographs, maps, and interviews, correspondent Jeff Johnson will explore the who, how and why of the crisis and talk to Don Cheadle about his efforts to raise awareness and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir about the government's accountability in this war.

LIFE AND DEATH IN DARFUR: JEFF JOHNSON REPORTS is produced by BET.
