11/12/2007 -- Major League Baseball and PEOPLE today announced the winner in the nationwide search for "The Sexiest Fan Alive." Chris Piela, a Boston Red Sox fan, from Duluth, Georgia, was selected from nine finalists in an online fan vote. Over 2,000 passionate baseball fans competed for the title of "The Sexiest Fan Alive," and nearly 300,000 fans voted on the nine finalists.

A Boston native who recently relocated to Georgia, Chris was nominated by his wife, Kristine. Chris, an insurance executive, is described by his wife as, "amazingly good-looking, extremely fit, a wonderful husband and even more importantly, the best father." He recounts his most memorable baseball moment as "watching Ted Williams being honored by the game's legends and current stars in the pregame ceremony at the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park."

"It's a riot that I won," said Chris Piela. "The competition was a lot of fun. The best part was connecting with old friends."

On September 21, PEOPLE extended its popular Sexiest Man Alive franchise by launching a nationwide contest with Major League Baseball to find the "Sexiest Fan Alive." The "Sexiest Fan Alive" will be featured in an ad in PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive issue, hitting newsstands November 16, which reaches 44.5 million readers. Piela will receive two tickets to a game of the 2008 World Series.
