As Seen and Heard on ESPN on ABC's NASCAR Countdown from Phoenix International Raceway
November 11, 2007 -- The Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup continued Sunday, Nov. 11, at Phoenix International Raceway. Coverage of the event began at 3 p.m. ET with NASCAR Countdown. Suzy Kolber hosted NASCAR Countdown, with 1989 NASCAR champion Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty, a former winning team owner in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Some NASCAR Countdown highlights:
The battle between teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup championship
SUZY KOLBER, NASCAR COUNTDOWN HOST – “It’s been suggested that maybe this would be a little more compelling if these two guys weren’t good friends, but in one sense that adds pretty good intrigue.”
BRAD DAUGHERTY, ESPN ANALYST AND FORMER WINNING NASCAR TEAM OWNER -- “I love it. I think it’s great because at some point these toes are going to get stepped on, just like we saw at Martinsville earlier this year when Jimmie and Jeff got together. And I think it’s going to happen. There could be some egos bruised.”
RUSTY WALLACE, ESPN ANALYST AND 1989 NASCAR CUP SERIES CHAMPION – “I think that the Mr. Nice Guy stuff is about over right now. These guys are teammates, that’s for sure, but they want to get that championship, both of them do. They are nice to each other, they’re racing each other clean and all that junk, but they need to go out there right now and get it on.”
ESPN2 had live coverage of Saturday’s NASCAR Busch Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year point leader David Ragan has not won a race this season.
DAVID RAGAN (to ESPN pit reporter Jamie Little) – “To finish in the top five in points and then get that rookie-of-the-year is special, but I probably would trade both of them for a win today.”
