Vermont Governor Urges Employers to Hire Veterans
Proclaims November ‘Hire a Veteran Month’ in Vermont
November 6, 2007 -- Montpelier, Vt. – Vermont Governor Jim Douglas today signed an executive proclamation declaring November “Hire a Veteran Month” in Vermont and urged employers, organized labor, veterans’ organizations and government agencies to lend their support to this drive to hire qualified veterans.
“Those currently serving our country, like those who served before them, have received extensive technical training and have routinely operated in highly technical and complex work environments,” the Governor said. “Our veterans possess special qualities, skills and self-discipline, which make them ideal candidates for employment. In addition, we want to show our extreme appreciation to all Veterans and to give our thanks for their contribution to our country’s security and freedom.”
Governor Douglas established a hiring preference in state government for qualified veterans in 2003. And the Vermont Department of Labor has programs and employment representatives who ensure that promote the hiring of veterans and ensure all veterans receive the services to which they are entitled.
