Alaska Governor Palin Orders Flags Lowered for Former Lawmaker

November 6, 2007, Juneau, Alaska - Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in memory of former State Representative Thelma Buchholdt, who died this week. She was 73.

Buchholdt was first elected to the Alaska State House in 1974 and served through 1982. She was the first Filipino American woman elected to a state legislature. Buchholdt was active in many community organizations such as March of Dimes, American Heart Association and League of Women Voters.

“Representative Buchholdt led a life of service and a life of giving, and was devoted to the people of Alaska and her native Philippines,” said Governor Palin. “All of our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, and to all of the people whose lives she touched, during this difficult time."

Buchholdt is survived by her husband and four children. State flags will be lowered on Saturday, November 10, 2007, the day of Buchholdt’s funeral in Anchorage.
