Texas Governor Perry Awards $4.5 Million to Juvenile Justice And Delinquency Prevention Programs
Oct. 30, 2007 -- AUSTIN – Texas Governor Rick Perry today awarded approximately $4.5 million in grants to 79 programs aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency and improving the juvenile justice system. These grants are awarded through the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act Fund (JJDP), and are distributed by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD).
"Prevention is the best assurance that at-risk youth have the foundation and direction to build upon to grow into successful and productive citizens," said Perry. "These grants help tie together positive reinforcement with personal responsibility for those children who have lost their way, teaching them important lessons that will last a lifetime."
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act funds are used to develop more effective education, training, research, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs to improve the juvenile justice system. Projects focus on holding juvenile offenders accountable while providing meaningful intervention, promoting positive youth development, protecting juveniles’ rights, and preventing youth from becoming involved in delinquent behaviour.
Each year, CJD awards more than $113 million in grants for a variety of juvenile justice, criminal justice and victim services programs.
