Connecticut Governor Rell Asks Red Sox Owner John Henry to Bring Team to Hartford for World Series Celebration Rally
Rally an Opportunity for this Part of Red Sox Nation to Congratulate Team
October 30, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today sent a letter to Red Sox Principal Owner John W. Henry to convey the state’s heartfelt congratulations to the team for sweeping the Colorado Rockies to win the 2007 World Series and to ask him to consider bringing the Boston Red Sox to Hartford in the coming days so diehard Sox fans from across the Connecticut can celebrate with them.
“Connecticut is a state divided among Red Sox and Yankee fans with a fair amount of New York Mets fans in the mix. Nevertheless, Connecticut considers itself to be a big part of Red Sox Nation,” Governor Rell said. “A rally in Hartford would be an opportunity for Red Sox fans to show their admiration for the team and honor them for their championship season.”
In 2004, Red Sox players, team management and other representatives of the organization came to Connecticut for rallies in New Haven and Hartford following their historic World Series win. The team traveled to other New England states as well. Governor Rell said the state would welcome the opportunity this year to host a similar rally in Hartford so this critical part of Red Sox Nation can join in the celebration.
“I am a faithful Yankees fan. However, as a baseball fan and someone who appreciates this historic pastime, I would be honored to have the Red Sox organization come to Connecticut so we can join Red Sox Nation in saying ‘congratulations’ for winning a second World Series in four years and ‘thank you’ for another unforgettable Fall Classic,” Governor Rell said.
In 2004, Governor Rell declared the day of the rally as “Boston Red Sox Day” in the State of Connecticut. If team owners agree to bring the team back to Connecticut this year, Governor Rell said she would be honored to issue another official proclamation in the team’s honor.
