10/26/2007, WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Cable Hope Fund, a non-profit foundation created in 2005 to provide cable industry support for relief to victims of natural disasters, immediately will begin accepting financial donations from cable industry companies, organizations, and individuals to provide support and aid to those affected by the recent devastating wildfires in southern California, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) said today.

Monies collected by the Cable Hope Fund will be contributed to charitable organizations that are supporting the work of first responders and relief agencies in the disaster area and to organizations that will assist in rebuilding efforts.

“Cable operators and networks have a strong presence in southern California, and some employees and their families unfortunately have been directly affected by this disaster. Our industry feels a strong commitment to the communities we serve in southern California, and we want to do all we can to help the many families that are coping with the effects of the wildfires,” said David Pierce, Executive Director of the Cable Hope Fund and Vice President, Public Affairs, NCTA.

Pierce said the Cable Hope Fund will collect voluntary contributions and ensure that the money is dispersed to agencies and organizations that are making a difference in relief and recovery efforts.

Contributions for southern California disaster relief can be made in the form of checks made out to Cable Hope Fund, and sent to the Fund care of NCTA at 25 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 100, Washington, DC 20001, or electronically via credit card through the Cable Hope Fund website, www.CableHopeFund.org.

The Cable Hope Fund, administered by NCTA, was established in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, originally to collect and funnel cable industry financial assistance to hurricane victims in the Gulf Coast Region. All of the donations collected were dispersed directly to several major charities in the Gulf and, in some cases, directly to families and individuals displaced by the storms.

NCTA is the principal trade association for the U.S. cable industry, representing cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks. The cable industry is the nation’s largest broadband provider of high-speed Internet access after investing more than $110 billion over ten years to build a two-way interactive network with fiber optic technology. Cable companies also provide state-of-the-art digital telephone service to millions of American consumers.
