Foxy Brown in Isolation Following Fight with Fellow Inmate at New York Jail

26 October 2007, Washington (By Ray McDonald) -- Rapper Foxy Brown received 76 days in isolation at a New York jail after getting into a shoving match with another inmate and refusing to submit to a drug test.

Brown, born Inga Marchand, has been isolated and confined to her cell for 23 hours each day, said Stephen Morello, deputy commissioner for public information for the New York Department of Corrections. He said she may attend religious services, visit the law library, and meet with visitors.

The 29-year-old rapper is serving a one-year sentence at Rikers Island jail for a parole violation stemming from a 2004 assault on two nail salon employees over a $20 manicure.

In September, a judge sentenced Foxy Brown for violating her parole by failure to appear for court-ordered anger management classes and for again being arrested on assault charges.

Earlier in October, Brown pleaded not guilty to one of those charges - assaulting a New York City woman with her BlackBerry wireless device. Prosecutors say if Brown is convicted, she may face a seven-year jail sentence.

On October 16, Brown was disciplined for fighting with another inmate, using abusive language when speaking to a corrections officer, and refusing to submit to a random drug test, Morello said.

Calling the incident a "shoving match," he said neither woman was injured. A message left with Brown's lawyer was not immediately returned.

Brown has previously blamed her celebrity status for many of her legal problems. In 1999, Foxy Brown's Chyna Doll was the first album by a female rapper to open atop the Billboard 200 pop album chart.
