Seattle Mariners to Open 33-Game Spring Baseball Schedule vs. San Diego Padres on Thursday, Feb. 28
Opener is first of 17 spring games at Peoria Sports Complex
10/23/2007 -- The Seattle Mariners will open their 2008 Spring Training schedule on Thursday, February 28, in the annual charity game against the San Diego Padres at the Peoria Sports Complex. Proceeds from the 1:05 p.m. (MST) game will benefit youth charities in the Northwest Valley (Phoenix/Peoria).
The Seattle Mariners announced their tentative 33-game schedule, which includes a total of 17 games in Peoria (15 "home" games plus two games when the Padres will be the home team), the Mariners Spring Training base since 1993.
The Seattle Mariners will play a total of 27 games (including split squad games) in the Phoenix area, three games in Tucson, and three games outside Arizona after breaking camp on March 27. The only night game currently scheduled in Peoria is Wednesday, March 19, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In addition to the Cactus League portion of the schedule in Arizona, the Mariners will play a single game at San Francisco's AT&T Park against the Giants on Thursday, March 27. The final two spring games on March 28 & 29 will be determined at a later date. The regular season opener is set for Monday, March 31, when the Mariners host the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.
