ESPN to Offer Multi-Media Coverage of the Two-Day Breeders' Cup World Championships

October 22, 2007 -- ESPN will devote an unprecedented nine 1/2 hours of coverage of the first-ever, two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships from Monmouth Park in New Jersey. The Breeders' Cup race coverage, in High Definition, begins with three new races on Friday, Oct. 26, from 4-6 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and continues Saturday, Oct. 27, on ESPN from noon to 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the live coverage on ESPN and ESPN2, both days of the Breeders' Cup will be simulcast live on ESPN360.com, beginning with the draw on Oct. 23. Also, ESPN.com will provide full editorial coverage of the races, including the days leading up to the big event.

The races will be broadcast on ESPN International in the Atlantic, Pacific Rim and Latin America Networks as well as on TSN in Canada. ESPN Radio will provide news and information from Monmouth.

Joe Tessitore will host the telecasts and will work with analysts Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss. Kenny Mayne will also serve as a host and work with handicapper Hank Goldberg. Jeannine Edwards, Laffit Pincay, lll, Nick Luck, Tom Rinaldi and Caton Bredar will serve as reporters. Trevor Denman will call the races.

ON ESPN.com, experts, including Jeremy Plonk, Bill Finley and Jay Cronley, will give their analysis of all the action on and off the track.

TECHNOLOGY

ESPN's coverage of the Breeders' Cup will use the latest technology, including 28 cameras:

* All in high definition
* ESPN RailView- two gyro-cameras mounted on a car in the infield, providing a close-up view of the leaders
* Steadicam, for post-parades
* Wireless mics on trainers and owners
* New graphics, including pointers to identify horses during replays
* Two RF cameras, bringing sights and sounds of Monmouth Park
* Sportvision imaging
* Virtual displays that will mark the distances to the finish line (300 yards, 200 yards and 100 yards)
* Telestrator
* Aerial coverage from blimp

FEATURES

Features on The Breeders’ Cup telecast will include:

* Joe Talamo -- a profile of the 17-year-old jockey, expected to ride Nashoba's Key, the winner of seven straight and five California stakes races since April, in the Filly and Mare Turf race.
* Carl Nafzger and Calvin Borel -- Trainer Nafzger and jockey Borel are both experiencing high-profile success as they near the twilights of their careers. Nafzger is in semi-retirement and Borel has risen from humble beginnings and a long career out of the spotlight. Both are now experiencing a great run that started at last year's Breeders' Cup, in which their Street Sense won the Juvenile
* Greg's Gold- The story behind the naming of the six-year-old gelding who won the Pat O'Brien handicap and is expected to run in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Greg Boswell suffered from Down Syndrome and was a Special Olympics medalist and an avid golfer. The piece tells Greg's the story through the eyes of his friends and family.
* Aidan O'Brien -- Profile of the highly successful European trainer, who will likely bring two horses, Excellent Art (in the Mile) and Arc de Triomphe winner Dylan Thomas (in the Turf)
