CNN.com Gives Users Extensive Look at "Planet in Peril"
October 19, 2007 -- CNN.com, in conjunction with the CNN Worldwide investigation Plant in Peril, has created an online destination to enable users to go beyond the headlines and into more than a dozen countries directly affected by imminent environmental changes around the world.
The Planet in Peril special section, found at www.CNN.com/PlanetinPeril, presents a "first look" at the ground-breaking documentary with subsections dedicated to the program's four main environmental issues: climate change, over population, species loss and deforestation. The section also provides exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, production team commentary, virtual maps of the planet's "hot spots," green tips, the latest environmental headlines and moving documentary photography.
Viewer questions, photos and videos can be submitted through CNN's i-Report where online users can also send stories about how climate change is affecting them and their ideas on what can be done to preserve the planet. The documentary's trailer is also available on the main page and is set to the tune of "Until the Day is Done," a new song from the band R.E.M.
Additionally, for students and educators, the CNN's Student News Program offers in-depth educational resources about the most pressing environmental threats to the world today as well as an interactive game tied to the series, Planet in Peril: Animal Rescue.
Hosted by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, CNN's chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Animal Planet host and wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin, Planet in Peril airs over two nights on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET/PT) on CNN.
