Purchasing before Nov. 30 also allows season-ticket holders to save between seven and 21 percent compared with buying tickets on an individual-game basis.
Additionally, the club released its full 2008 season schedule. The Astros will open at San Diego for a four-game series from March 31-April 3, as part of a seven-game road trip that will also send the club to Wrigley Field to play the Chicago Cubs from April 4-6. The season-opening trip marks the first time since 2000 and only the fourth time in a 27-season span since 1981 that the Astros will open on the road.
The Astros will host both the New York Yankees (June 13-15) and Boston Red Sox (June 27-29) for the first time during the regular season at Minute Maid Park in 2008. The other Interleague home series is against the Texas Rangers (June 24-26), the second half of the annual Lone Star Series that begins with three games in Arlington from May 16-18. Season-ticket purchases before the Early Bird deadline will also allow fans to guarantee tickets for the Yankees and Red Sox series and avoid paying any premium prices for those games (savings of up to 55 percent, depending on seat location).
Houston will also host the 2006 American League champion Detroit Tigers in a pair of exhibition games at Minute Maid Park on Friday, March 28 at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, March 29 at 1:05 p.m. The games will conclude the Astros 2008 exhibition schedule.
The Astros will visit Baltimore (June 17-19) and Tampa Bay (June 20-22) in Interleague play, and the series against the Devil Rays marks Houston's first visit to Tropicana Field. Following the trip to Tampa Bay, Toronto will remain the only city in the Majors that the Astros have not visited.
Other highlights of the 2008 schedule include three home series against the Chicago Cubs (May 19-21, July 18-20, Sept. 12-14) and a season-opening homestand that features three games against the St. Louis Cardinals (April 7-9) and three against the Florida Marlins (April 11-13). Opening Day at Minute Maid Park will be on Monday, April 7 against the Cardinals at 6:05 p.m. The National League champion Colorado Rockies also visit Minute Maid Park for three games from April 18-20.
As an added benefit, season-ticket holders have the option of purchasing tickets for all potential 2008 home playoff games before sale to the general public.
Astros games offer Houston fans an exciting and family-oriented form of entertainment. A family of four can attend an Astros game for as little as $16. More than 40 percent of the seats in Minute Maid Park are $22 or less. Additionally, the Astros are one of the few teams in the four major sports leagues that have individual-game tickets starting at $1 for kids and $7 for adults. In fact, the club has more than 2,500 reserved $1 and $7 seats available for every game.
During the past 15 seasons since 1993, the Astros have been one of the most successful franchises in Major League Baseball. The Astros have a .534 winning percentage during that span, which ranks second-best among all National League clubs and fifth among all Major League teams. The team has been to the playoffs six times in 11 years since 1997, winning the National League Central Division four times and the National League Wild Card in 2004 and 2005. Both the 2004 and 2005 teams advanced to the National League Championship Series with the 2005 National League champion Houston Astros advancing to the first World Series in franchise history. The Astros have finished first or second in the Central Division 12 times in the 14-year history of the NL Central Division from 1994-2006. The complete 2008 Astros schedule can be found at www.astros.com. Individual regular-season game tickets are scheduled to go on sale in February 2007.
