Catcher, outfielder sent to Round Rock

10/18/2007, HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros announced today that the club has outrighted catcher Hector Gimenez and outfielder Mike Rodriguez to Triple A Round Rock. The announcement was made by General Manager Ed Wade.

Gimenez, 25, missed the entire 2007 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder on March 5. In 2006, he appeared in two Major League games for the Astros and went 0 for 2. In 76 games for Triple A Round Rock in 2006, the switch-hitting catcher hit .273 (75 for 275) with eight home runs and 37 RBI. Gimenez was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 1999.

Rodriguez, who turned 27 on Monday, hit .274 (66 for 241) with two home runs and 24 RBI in 85 games for Triple A Round Rock in 2007. He was originally selected in the second round of the June 2001 draft.

The Astros 40-man roster now stands at 36 players.
