Kevin Costner, Modern West to Join Tampa Bay Devil Rays Celebration on Nov. 8
Free event will celebrate team's launch of new name, uniforms, colors, logo
10/18/2007, ST. PETERSBURG -- Hollywood's Kevin Costner and his band Modern West will perform at Straub Park in downtown St. Petersburg on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. during the Tampa Bay Devil Rays celebration to launch the team's new name, colors, uniforms and logo. Admission is free.
Costner and Modern West have been performing original rock and roll songs for more than two years. One of the film industry's most endearing and enduring stars, Costner has starred in nearly 50 feature films including three baseball movies: Bull Durham, Field of Dreams and For the Love of the Game.
The band will take the stage at Straub Park following a "fashion show" at 5:30 p.m. in which Rays players and coaches, Manager Joe Maddon, former players Wade Boggs and Fred McGriff will model the Rays new uniforms. Following the concert, there will be a fireworks show. The afternoon will kick off at 4 p.m. with activities for fans of all ages. The Rays Street Team and team mascot Raymond will also be part of the celebration.
The festivities will continue in downtown Tampa the following day, Friday, Nov. 9. Players will make appearances throughout the community and at noon the Rays will be at Gaslight Park to visit with fans and give away Rays merchandise.
That evening fans can meet Rays players and purchase the new gear at numerous Champs Sports locations throughout the Tampa Bay area. Champs is the exclusive retail outlet for the launch.
