Detroit Casino Council Reaches Tentative Agreement with MotorCity Casino
Wednesday, October 17, 2007, DETROIT -- The Detroit Casino Council (DCC) and MotorCity Casino announced today that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.
The Casino has re-opened for business and MotorCity Casino employees have been notified to return to work.
"We stayed at the bargaining table until we got the job done," said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles. "We've reached an agreement that will benefit our members and their families, while also helping the gaming industry move forward in Detroit."
"This has been a long and tough negotiation process. Both sides worked very hard to reach a fair and equitable contract. I would like to thank UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles and the Detroit Casino Council bargaining team for their leadership and hard work to negotiate this agreement," said Rhonda Cohen, COO, MotorCity Casino Hotel. "We value the hard work of our associates and look forward to working together throughout the length of this agreement to provide the best in gaming entertainment and hospitality to our loyal customers.
Details of the new agreement will be presented to members of the UAW, UNITE-HERE, the Teamsters, and the Operating Engineers, the unions that make up the Detroit Casino Council at Motor City. Over 2,000 workers at MotorCity Casino are represented by the unions of the Detroit Casino Council.
