Colorado Rockies Win Again, Boston Red Sox Open with a Victory
2007 Major League Baseball Playoffs
13 October 2007 -- Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies posted a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday to take a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series.
The visiting Colorado Rockies were leading 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Arizona Diamondback's Eric Byrnes drove in the trying run. But a base-running mistake by Stephen Drew on the play cost the Arizona Diamondbacks the potential winning run, sending the game into extra innings.
Colorado's winning margin came in the 11th inning, when Arizona relief pitcher Jose Valverde walked Willy Taveras with the bases loaded, which brought home the go-ahead run.
The series now moves to Denver, Colorado, for game three Sunday.
In the American League, the Boston Red Sox trounced the Cleveland Indians 10-3 Friday in the opening game of their best-of-seven championship Series.
Boston pitcher Josh Beckett worked six strong innings, giving up only two runs while striking out seven Cleveland batters.
The two teams meet again Saturday in Boston for game two.
