Tampa Bay Devil Rays Stay Green, Announce 2008 MLB Ticket Prices
- Tampa Bay Devil Rays, continuing "green" leadership, keep free parking for carpoolers
- Also announce 2008 ticket prices
10/12/2007, ST. PETERSBURG -- Despite the previously planned phase-out of free parking in all team-controlled lots at Tropicana Field, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have decided instead to maintain free parking for all vehicles with four or more passengers.
"Free parking has become a symbol of the Rays fan-friendly operations," said Team President Matt Silverman. "Our decision to extend free parking to encourage and reward carpooling confirms our commitment not only to our fans and area families but also to the continued greening of Tropicana Field and all Rays operations."
The team's decision to extend free parking for vehicles of four or more passengers was commended by state and local environmental leaders.
"The Rays hard work to make Tropicana Field clean and energy efficient is both good for the environment and smart business," said Frank Jackalone, Sierra Club's Florida Director. "The Rays announcement that it will extend free parking as an incentive for carpooling is a great example of the team making smart green decisions. It is both environmentally sound and a financial benefit for the fans."
For vehicles with fewer than four passengers, parking will cost $10, the same fee charged in 2005, which was the last season Rays fans paid for parking. As in 2005, the Rays will offer parking in remote lots for $5.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays also released ticket prices for the 2008 season, keeping ticket pricing among the most affordable in all of Major League Baseball.
The 2008 schedule features 21 prime games, including the June 17-19 series with the Chicago Cubs who will be making their first-ever visit to Tropicana Field. Full season ticket prices will not change. Individual ticket prices for both regular and prime games remain unchanged from 2007, with two exceptions: Outfield tickets have been reduced by $1 and Upper Deck tickets have increased $1. Tickets purchased on the day of the game within five hours of game time will include a fee of $2 per ticket.
"Day of game fees have become standard in our industry," said Silverman. "They allow us to keep ticket prices lower for the majority of our fans who buy tickets in advance."
The total ballpark capacity for 2008 is expected to remain close to the 2007 capacity of 36,048, and capacities for individual seating sections are expected to change slightly from 2007.
Tickets for suites and party areas go on sale Oct. 15. Group tickets go on sale Nov. 9 and on that date, the Rays will begin offering a Holiday Pack featuring a new Rays 2008 cap and tickets to three games including Opening Day (Tuesday, April 8 vs. Seattle). Individual tickets will go on sale some time after the first of the year. Updated information will be available via devilrays.com or raysbeisbol.com.
Fans may now join the Rays 2008 Season Ticket priority list for access to the best seat locations and the biggest discounts, and for a limited time, join the priority list and get a 2008 Rays cap. To join the Rays season ticket priority list or to make party area or suite reservations, fans can call 888-FAN-RAYS; visit devilrays.com or raysbeisbol.com; or stop by the Rays office at Tropicana Field or the Rays Tampa Office at 400 North Tampa Street.
