Statements By NYC Mayor And Police Commissioner On Guilty Verdict In Killing Of NYPD Detective Dillon Stewart
October 11, 2007 -- "Detective Dillon Stewart displayed exceptional bravery in his devotion to keeping New York City the safest big City in the America. His senseless murder was yet another tragic example of the devastation that illegal guns bring to our communities, and will continue to honor his memory by fighting to keep illegal guns off our streets. We will never forget Dillon Stewart's heroic sacrifice and his inspirational final hour. Although we will never be able to repay the debt we owe to his family, we hope that today's guilty verdict will at least provide them with a sense of relief that the justice system – to which Dillon Stewart dedicated his life - worked." – Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg
"On behalf of the New York City Police Department, I want to convey our gratitude to the jurors for their service. Although the guilty verdict does nothing to restore the life of Dillon Stewart, I hope it brings some measure of peace to his family, and that it serves as a warning to those who would target police officers that justice will be done." - Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly
