Broadcom VDSL2 Technology Deployed by Ericsson for EDA Broadband Access Products
Support of Multimode ADSL2+/VDSL2 Service Results in Better Triple-Play Services and Expanded Service Offerings for Ericsson Customers
BERLIN, Oct 09, 2007 /PRNewswire - FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Broadband World Forum 2007 -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its standards- compliant and interoperable VDSL2 chipset has been selected by Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC) for their industry-leading EDA Broadband Access product line. The Broadcom® VDSL2 technology has been a cornerstone for Ericsson in the race to be one of the first companies to introduce standards-based VDSL2 for its customers, enabling them to roll-out advanced triple-play services such as IPTV.
Broadcom's powerful BladeRunner™ DSL chipset offers a broad range of capabilities that result in a vastly improved user experience for subscribers of telecommunications triple-play services. Based on this technology, Ericsson's EDA VDSL2 (very-high-bit-rate DSL) platform is a new generation broadband solution that provides access speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) over existing copper networks enabling simplified network structure and enhanced cost-efficiency for operators.
The integration of Broadcom's technology in Ericsson's EDA VDSL2 portfolio is a result of a long-term cooperation initiated in 2001. Since then, Ericsson has been one of the leading suppliers in the IP DSLAM market with solutions deployed globally in more than 100 networks to date. With the introduction of Broadcom VDSL2, Ericsson continues its technological leadership in the IP DSLAM market.
"Ericsson's adoption of our BladeRunner chipset is a strong validation of Broadcom's leadership in ADSL2+/VDSL2 and FTTx markets," said Greg Fischer, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Carrier Access line of business. "Ericsson's customers can now accelerate mass deployment of triple- play services as a result of the flexibility of our ADSL2+ and VDSL2 solutions. These solutions will enable all types of deployments through deep fiber solutions, allowing Ericsson's customers to look forward to new IP services with improved performance and reduced service provisioning complexity and scalability issues."
Broadcom silicon and software solutions bring unparalleled capabilities to the industry, addressing all aspects of successful deployments of DSL-based services such as:
*
* Video enabling features including its newly released PhyR™ impulse noise protection technology, and the existing seamless rate adaptation (SRA), channel bonding and header compression techniques all of which increase capacity, quality and service coverage.
Enhanced power and performance including firmware capabilities to optimize power, reach and spectral flexibility for all FTTx deployments such as multi-moding with flexible band plan tuning (with or without upstream zero), dynamic spectral management, and power back offs combined with existing embedded power management features.
These highly flexible digital signal processor (DSP) and software architectures enable Broadcom to offer unique DSL solutions that allow the rapid integration of standards-compliant ADSL2+ and VDSL2 technology, seamless field upgrades, and most importantly, the industry's best multi-vendor interoperability platforms.
