10/05/2007 NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Working Mother magazine recently recognized Allstate as a "2007 Working Mother 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" for the 17th consecutive year. Supporting the success of women in the workplace has been at the heart of Allstate's commitment to a high-performance culture for many years.
In a workforce of more than 37,000 Allstate employees, almost 60 percent are women and nearly 30 percent are minorities.
"Every year our winning companies raise the bar for what it means to be an employer of choice for working families," said Carol Evans, CEO and president, Working Mother Media. "Allstate not only offers essential benefits like flextime and telecommuting-they go above and beyond with a range of best practices and policies to ease the difficulties for working parents and their families. Their supportive culture makes a huge difference to employees who are great moms and great workers."
Added Suzanne Riss, the editor in chief of Working Mother magazine, "As a working mother myself, I understand how absolutely essential it is for companies to find ways to nurture the personal and professional lives of employees. I commend Allstate for conceiving and effectively implementing programs and benefits that offer an inspiring paradigm for the rest of corporate America: it is possible to be both family-friendly and financially successful."
Allstate provides several benefits to its employees that promote professional development and work/life balance. Some of the benefits include on-site and near-site child care centers, flexible work arrangements, an employee wellness program featuring Mayo Clinic resources, on-site services such as a fitness center, dry-cleaning; postal services; barber shop; nail salon; lube/minor auto services; convenience stores; and banking and/or ATMs.
"Allstate's workforce reflects the diverse markets we serve and it's an honor to be recognized as a top employer for women," said Anise D. Wiley-Little, assistant vice president and Allstate chief diversity officer. "Our diversity strategy enables our employees to thrive in a high-performance environment and promotes inclusion and work/life balance. Methodology:
Allstate was selected for the 2007 Working Mother 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application of 575 questions. The application included detailed questions about workforce, compensation, child-care and flexibility programs, leave policies and more. It also checked the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs, and company culture. For this year's 100 Best, particular weight was given to flexibility and family-friendly policies.
