Seattle Mariners 2008 Opening Day Set for Monday, March 31 at Safeco Field vs. Texas Rangers

10/04/2007 -- The Seattle Mariners will open the 2008 regular season at Safeco Field against the Texas Rangers with a three-game series that begins on Opening Day, Monday, March 31. The club announced its tentative 162-game schedule today, and expects the schedule to be finalized later in the off season.

All three AL West opponents will visit Safeco Field in April. Both the Los Angeles Angels (April 11-13) and the Oakland Athletics (April 25-27) will come to Seattle for weekend series in the opening month of the season.

Three National League teams will come to the Northwest in 2008. The San Diego Padres will make their annual trip May 16-18, and the Washington Nationals (June 13-15) and Florida Marlins (June 16-18) will be here for a mid-June homestand. This will be the first time the Marlins have played in Seattle.

On the road for interleague play, the Mariners will make a three-series trip to face the Atlanta Braves (June 20-22), the New York Mets (June 23-25) and San Diego Padres (June 27-29).

The Mariners will be home on two summer holidays, hosting the Boston Red Sox on Memorial Day (May 26) and the Detroit Tigers on the Fourth of July. The Red Sox will play two series at Safeco Field in 2008 (May 26-28 and July 21-23), and the New York Yankees will make on trip to Seattle (the weekend of Sept. 5-7).
