Retna, Ltd. to Digitize, Market Archived Images
Tuesday, October 02, 2007 -- Disney-ABC Television Group's Photography & New Communications Media department today announced it is partnering with Retna, Ltd. to digitize and market millions of archived images, marking the first time the department has partnered with an agency for photo distribution. Terms of the deal will see Retna handle domestic and international distribution for publicity purposes of all episodic and gallery art of archived copyrighted photography from ABC-broadcast programming, as well as international publicity distribution for current series produced by ABC Studios. The ABC photography archive, which dates back to the 1940 Blue Network radio days, is a comprehensive collection with millions of images that illustrate the entire epic history of the network.
In commenting on the announcement, Kevin Brockman, senior vice president, Communications, Disney-ABC Television Group said: "This agreement typifies the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that defines our communication efforts at Disney-ABC TV Group. Dan Richards and his team have done an amazing job shepherding this deal with Retna from conception through to implementation."
"ABC has an extensive archive that encompasses the colorful past of radio and television over the past 65 years," said Dan Richards, vice president, Photography and New Communications Media, Disney-ABC Television Group. "Having Retna manage this archive will allow us to bring these images back to life and make them accessible for use worldwide."
"We are excited about Disney-ABC's decision to give global exposure to this historic collection. The ABC collection will complement the ever growing prestige of the Retna Archive and allow our clients and partners access to a wealth of media history," said Jessica Daly, CEO of Retna, Ltd.
The art and images will be available online and distributed through the Retna site at www.retna.com. In order to provide easy and immediate access to images, the online service will be available 24 hours a day.
