September 27, 2007 -- (Washington, DC)- Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) introduced the "Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA) Amendments Act of 2007." The Act will extend the moratorium on certain taxes relating to the Internet and to electronic commerce and to address growing concerns as innovation occurs.

"This bill provides for consumer and market fairness," Conyers said. "I am pleased to say that working together, we were able to come up with a bipartisan bill that addresses a broad range of concerns that have arisen as we approach the current moratorium's deadline in November."

The ITFA Amendments Act will extend the moratorium for four years, until November 1, 2011, extend the grandfather provisions for another four years, and creates an exemption for states that have enacted laws that would structure their gross receipts taxes in such a way as to be a substitute for state corporate income taxes that are not taxes on Internet access, under certain circumstances.

"This bill enjoys bipartisan support and is the best way to address the upcoming moratorium deadline," Conyers said. "I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting this legislation."
