Louisiana Governor Blanco Declares Black And Gold Weekend To Rally Fans For Monday's Saints Game
Sep 21, 2007 -- BATON ROUGE - As Saints fans prepare to pack the Superdome for the first New Orleans Saints home game of the 2007 season, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco today declared "Black and Gold Weekend." Starting today, the proclamation encourages Who Dat fans to wear and display the team's colors through Monday, when the Saints take on the Tennessee Titans live on Monday Night Football.
Saints officials read the Governor's proclamation aloud to fans during today's Black and Gold fan rally in support of the team:
"Whereas, since 1967, the people of Louisiana have stood faithfully by our team, the New Orleans Louisiana Saints; and
Whereas, members of the Saints organization represent the determination and spirit of our people; and
Whereas, Saints players, coaches, and staff are appreciated for their active role in the recovery of communities across the Gulf Coast as well as their numerous appearances, commitments, and contributions throughout the entire NFL season; and
Whereas, the Saints achieved the most successful season in franchise history in 2006 and battled the Chicago Bears for the NFC Championship and a Super Bowl XLI berth on January 21, 2007; and
Whereas, Saints fans welcomed their team home to Louisiana by filling the Superdome for each regular season game, creating the first regular season sell-out in 2006, and repeating it in 2007; and
Whereas, more than 70,000 fans will fill the Louisiana Superdome and make a critical difference in the team's efforts against the Tennessee Titans on September 24, 2007; and
Whereas, Louisianans throughout our state and members of the Black and Gold Nation around the world are uniting behind this exceptional team.
Now, therefore, I, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Governor of the State of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 21, 2007 through Monday, September 24, 2007 as New Orleans Saints Black and Gold Weekend in the State of Louisiana and urge citizens to display and wear the Saints' team colors as a sign of support for Louisiana's team."
