ESPN Radio's Mike Tirico Show Launches in Syracuse, Where Host’s Career Began
September 20, 2007 -- SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt will join The Mike Tirico Show (1-3 p.m. ET M-F) on a regular basis and serve as substitute host while Kirk Herbstreit and Michele Tafoya will also be regular contributors to ESPN Radio’s weekday afternoon program. All three will appear on today’s show debut.
Van Pelt, who joined ESPN in May 2001, has anchored the 6 p.m., 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. SportsCenters, and has covered all four majors as SportsCenter’s golf primary host/reporter.
Herbstreit joined ESPN in September 1995 and has served as analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay since August 1996, and for the Saturday Night Football series on ABC. He will continue to co-host a weekday show for The Fan SportsRadio 1460 in Columbus, Ohio.
Monday Night Football and NBA sideline reporter Tafoya joined ESPN in 2000, and has served as men’s and women’s NCAA basketball play-by-play and studio host, and college football and basketball sideline reporter.
“The Mike Tirico Show will feature four of sports broadcasting’s strongest voices,” said Mo Davenport, senior vice president and general manager of ESPN Radio. "Mike, Scott, Kirk and Michele have varied experiences and engaging personalities that will make this program popular with fans."
