Iowa Lt. Governor Patty Judge To Celebrate Iowa's Renewable Energy Industry
Will Participate in Siemens Wind Power’s New Facility Opening
September 20, 2007 -- (Des Moines) Tomorrow, Iowa Lt. Governor Patty Judge will celebrate the advances Iowa has made in renewable energy with stops in Riverside and Fort Madison.
“Iowa has made tremendous strides in renewable energy in recent years,” said Lt. Governor Judge. “Iowa now produces more ethanol and biodiesel than any other state in the nation. And with more than 1000 wind turbines dotting Iowa’s prairies, we are the third leading producer of wind energy. Iowa is the national leader in renewable energy. And with our new $100 million Iowa Power Fund, we will be able to build upon our success and create a brighter future for all Iowans.”
During her first stop in Riverside, the Lt. Governor will participate in the opening ceremonies of Renewables on Parade, a business and consumer conference designed to comprehensively address world energy demands of the 21st century. Experts and professionals from across the nation will provide well-rounded, practical perspectives, about key renewable energy challenges.
Later in the day, Lt. Governor Judge will participate in the grand opening of Siemens Wind Power’s new North American production facility in Fort Madison.
“Iowa’s abundant wind, along with our strengths in education, transportation, and advanced manufacturing, make Iowa an ideal location for America’s wind energy industry,” said the Lt. Governor. “I am proud to welcome Siemens to Iowa. This new facility will add more than 250 jobs to Iowa’s economy, and create new opportunities throughout southeast Iowa. We look forward to working with them in the coming years as we build upon our strengths in renewable energy, and create a brighter, stronger, and more energy secure future for Iowa.”
Based in Denmark, Siemens Wind Power develops, manufacturers and installs state of the art wind turbines. Their new $23 million Fort Madison facility received nearly $2 million dollars in state assistance through the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
