Los Angeles Galaxy to Travel to New Zealand Dec. 2
L.A. Galaxy will face Wellington Phoenix FC in friendly
09/18/2007, CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Galaxy will play Hyundai A-League side Wellington Phoenix FC in an international friendly at Phoenix's home ground Westpac Stadium in the New Zealand capital on Sunday, December 2.
"It's a real privilege to bring the L.A. Galaxy to Wellington, a remarkable city where football has really captured the public imagination," said LA Galaxy Assistant General Manager Tom Payne. "We would like to thank Wellington Phoenix FC owner Terry Serepisos and chief executive Tony Pignata for all of their hard work in making this match a reality."
The match, which will be the LA Galaxy's second game "Down Under", comes five days after their clash with Hyundai A-League giants Sydney FC on Tuesday, November 27, in Sydney. It will also mark the club's first-ever appearance in New Zealand. Wellington Phoenix are in their first season of play in the Hyundai A-League after being awarded a franchise in March 2007.
"We're delighted to have arranged the Phoenix-Galaxy match after several months of negotiations," said Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos. "This match will be a wonderful showcase for New Zealand football and great opportunity to show the world that Wellington has a top-class football side in the Phoenix."
