09/18/2007 -- North Carolina Attorney General Drew Edmondson today said consumers who have signed up for the state’s Don’t Call List will remain on the list until they request otherwise, despite recent reports to the contrary.

Edmondson’s comments came in response to recent reports that some state Don’t Call Lists will soon be expiring. But Edmondson said that’s not the case in Oklahoma.

“There are states where Don’t Call registrations expire every two years, but Oklahoma is not one of them,” Edmondson said. “Once you sign up for our Don’t Call registry, you will remain on it unless or until you notify us that you no longer want to be on the list. You do need to re-register for the federal Don’t Call List every five years, but there is no expiration date on Oklahoma’s Don’t Call List.”

To date, more than 612,000 phone numbers are registered on Oklahoma’s Don’t Call List, which took effect in September 2002. Edmondson’s Consumer Protection Unit oversees the registry.

Edmondson today also reminded consumers who may have moved or changed phone numbers to update their information on the registry. The attorney general said consumers can also register their cellular phone numbers.

“The list is only as accurate as the information on it,” Edmondson said. “If your phone number has changed, you do need to update your registry information with your new phone number.”

Consumers who wish to register or update their registration information should call (405) 604-4665. Registration forms are also available on the attorney general’s website at www.oag.ok.gov.
