University Of Kansas' Osher Institute Announces Fall Schedule, Two New Partners
Sept. 4, 2007, LAWRENCE — The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Kansas will offer 21 courses and three special events this fall in Lawrence and Topeka, as well as its new locations in Overland Park and Clay County in Missouri.
Courses on music, movies, biotechnology, sports, Kansas history, geology and religion highlight the fall schedule. Three special events are also planned: a tour of the KU Field Station and Ecological Reserves, a special preview of the Spencer Museum of Art’s Aaron Douglas exhibit and a day trip to St. Joseph, Mo., “where the Pony Express began and Jesse James ended.”
Two new sponsors are providing support for the Osher Institute this fall. Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community in Overland Park and Clay County Senior Services in Gladstone, Mo., will host classes for the institute throughout the year.
The Osher Institute develops programs focusing on those 50 and older but welcomes lifelong learners of all ages. Institute members can enroll in courses for as little as $35. Other benefits include a KU online ID, which provides access to more than 40 instructional technology workshops, KU library services and a 15 percent discount on adult art education classes at the Lawrence Arts Center.
The Bernard Osher Foundation of San Francisco selected KU in 2004 as a site for this nationally acclaimed program that opens the university’s doors to the public. The institute now has more than 500 members.
Course titles, dates and locations are listed below. For more information or to join, visit the Continuing Education Web site (keyword: Osher) or call toll free (877) 404-5823 or (785) 864-5823.
