Rhode Island AG Lynch Applauds New Service Allowing Parents Greater Control Of Their Children's Cell Phone Use
2007-09-04 -- Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch today issued the following statement regarding SmartLimits for Wireless, a new web-based parental control feature for wireless service that AT&T is offering to its customers. The safety feature allows parents to block calls and text messages to and from numbers they don't approve, filter access to inappropriate Internet content, and teach their children to use their cell phones more responsibly.
"This innovation responds to the myriad challenges parents confront in trying to keep their kids safe in today's world. Technology has created a borders-free, global society that is advantageous in so many respects. But it also exposes our children to potentially harmful influences and information, and makes them more vulnerable to those who would seek to exploit them. Most consumers believe that parental controls and safety tools are extremely important in keeping children safe while they use their computers and cell phones, but some consumers feel that they don't have the knowledge to use these tools to protect their children. This service both helps educate parents and saves them money, and I applaud AT&T for offering it."
