03 September 2007 -- U.S. weather officials say a hurricane watch has been issued for parts of Honduras, as potentially catastrophic Hurricane Felix moves westward in the central Caribbean.

A watch means hurricane conditions are possible.

Felix is expected to brush Honduras's coastline Tuesday before hitting Belize Wednesday.

Maximum sustained wins are near 270 kilometers-per-hour, with higher gusts.

The center of the storm was between Colombia and Jamaica early Monday, moving at 33 kilometers-per-hour.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center has also issued a tropical storm watch for the islands of Jamaica and Grand Cayman.

The storm's outer bands skirted the islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire off the coast of Central America Sunday. The hurricane knocked down trees, flooded homes and caused scattered power outages on the islands. There have not been any reported deaths from the storm.

Felix is the second hurricane of the Atlantic season.

The storm strengthened from a Category Two hurricane early Sunday into a dangerous Category Five storm by Sunday night.

A Category Five hurricane is the most powerful, and is capable of causing catastrophic damage. Forecasters said they expect the storm to fluctuate in strength Monday.
